ELECTRICAL POWER ENGINEERING

Electrical Power Engineering is at the heart of the modern technological world. It is concerned with the basic forms of energy that run our world.

with the basic forms of energy that run our world. Whether it’s gas, hydro, turbine, fuel cell, solar, geothermal, or wind energy, electrical engineers deal with distributing these energies from their sources to our homes, factories, offices, hospitals, and schools. The electricity that lights up your home at night and the motor that powers your air conditioner in the heat of summer are made possible by electrical engineering. One of the areas of specialization in electrical engineering is Power Engineering. It consists of the design of motors, generators, and the electrical distribution grid that distributes electricity to homes and businesses around the country. It also includes the design of electronic circuitry for controlling power and motors. In order to meet this challenge, the Higher College of Technology – Muscat prepared its goals and objectives which are as follows:

Goals:

  • To provide an integrated educational experience directed toward development of ability to apply pertinent knowledge to the solution of practical problems in the graduate’s engineering technology specialty.
  • To expand scientific and engineering knowledge by preparing our graduates for employment as power analysts and engineering technologists through innovative research and hands-on training that responds to the need and challenge of our ever-changing world.

Objectives:

  • Contribute to society in a broad range of careers.
  • Flourish professionally in an increasingly international and rapidly changing diverse world.
  • Effectively understand, use and develop modern power engineering technologies and concepts.
  • Develop skills for clear communication and responsible teamwork, and to inculcate professional attitudes and ethics, so that one is prepared for the complex modern work environment.
  • Acquire sufficient breadth and depth for successful subsequent graduate study, post-graduate study, of lifelong learning.
  • Acquire the technical and managerial skills necessary to enter careers in the design, application and maintenance in power systems.
