School of engineering

Engineering Technology is concerned with theory, concepts, and practice of applied engineering.

1. Computer Engineering:

Computer Engineering is a rapidly advancing technology involving the application and integration of computer and electrical design techniques, communications engineering, computer simulation techniques and computing, to create complex engineering solutions to the design, manufacture and control of systems and sub-systems. In order to stay competitive, commerce and industry requires graduates who are knowledgeable in these techniques and their application.

2. Electronic Engineering:

Computer systems, the Internet, mobile telephones, automated banking and DVD systems are just a few items that are dependent upon electronic systems. This programme provides understanding, awareness and appreciation of the practical issues involved in the design, specification, maintenance, commissioning and manufacture of electronic systems and associated systems. This is achieved through combining your theoretical learning with extensive a hands-on experience, which employers consider vitally important when seeking graduates.

3. Telecommunication Engineering:

Telecommunications engineers are one of the driving forces behind recent, massive growth in areas such as the Internet, mobile telephones and other modern wired and wireless communications systems. As the world becomes increasingly dependent upon telecommunications systems, graduates of this programme can look forward to truly global career opportunities.

4. Electrical Power Engineering:

The production of Electrical Power and its management and control is at the heart of an infrastructure, provided by engineers, on which so much of our modern society depends. Electrical Power Engineering encompasses the fields of power generation, transmission, distribution and utilization, and is also concerned with energy conversion and the design of systems based upon electric motors and electronic drive technologies.

5. Civil Engineering:

B.Sc Civil Engineering provides a basic preparation for professional careers in the Built Environment sector (including design, construction, local authority and specialist work) as well as other areas such as project management and finance. We aim to instill not just knowledge of engineering science, but also a base of practical skills, an understanding of design, comprehension of the commercial world and competence in transferable skills (problem solving, team working, creativity, communications and IT). The degree also provides an excellent route for individuals wishing to proceed to postgraduate education as quickly as possible.

6. Mechanical Engineering:

Mechanical Engineers play a variety of roles within industry that are essential to the development of a successful national economy. In every field of human endeavour which involves a tangible product, mechanical engineers form an important part of the team.

This Mechanical Engineering degree aims to enable you to gain the academic and practical experience which will lead to a successful career as a Chartered Engineer; a career which will often lead to management positions at the highest level of a company and may involve international travel and experience. The degree benefits from the close relationships which the Newcastle Technical College has built with industry through its part-time degree programmes, applied research and consultancy work.
